I participated in the Summer Lake Placid Figure Skating competition this year and I had such a positive learning experience. While I was proud of my performances in the intermediate ladies short and free skate qualifying round, I faltered during the final round. The final round day consisted of doing both short and long programs, all the associated practice sessions and workouts. I was at the rink early in the morning that day and I did my final short program around 6 pm. It was a long day with a lot of physical work and emotions added in. I now understand that some moderate workout and resting on the previous day is important and can have a big impact on my performance.
Now for the fun stuff. In both my qualifying short and long programs I got great scores and acheived the top combined score in the nation. See the qualifying videos below and let me know what you think.
After a disappointing final round we went to get ice cream at Emma’s Creamery to cheer me up. If you go there you must get the Salted Caramel Bananas Fosters ice cream with a Chocolate, Nut crusted, and Rainbow Sprinkles cone ( longest order name ever! : ).
The Sunday after the competition my Dad had planned two outdoor activities so that we could take advantage of the beautiful Adirondack Region.
First we went to the High Peaks bike store in Lake Placid and rented some pretty awesome mountain bikes. They got us on our bikes, recommended Henry’s Woods trails, and gave us directions to get there. The place was perfect for me as a beginner. We rode directly from the bike store to the trail and on the way back I conquered a giant hill that impressed my Dad.
After a couple hours of mountain biking we decided to do some hiking on Giant Mountain. We hiked a couple miles up, then down to Giant’s Wash Bowl. This is basically a lake surrounded by mountains. By the time we hiked back to the car 4 hours had passed, we had consumed every drop of water, and expended every ounce of energy! Then we had a 5 hour car ride back. Although it was exhausting I will never forget the experience with my Dad making jokes all the way back to the car. : /)♥♥♥
See you later,
Lindsay : )
